You don't NEED to play Bioshock 1 and 2 before you play Bioshock Infinite, you mostly miss symbolic references, however, you do NEED to finish Bioshock 1 before you play Burial At Sea, as that DLC will COMPLETELY spoil the entire game, and ruin one of the greatest stories and moments in gaming. #9.
